Behind the Ranking

How Our Manufacturer Rankings Work

Our mission is to connect brands with the right manufacturing partner for them, so our rankings are not about finding the biggest or most advanced manufacturers. They're designed to reflect how confident we are that the manufacturer deliver products in the category they're ranked in.

That means it's all about the clarity and depth of the information a manufacturer provides about their operations — the more info we can find on a manufacturer’s services, capabilities, the more certain we are when we recommend it to someone on the site, and the higher the score behind the ranking.

What We Evaluate

Here are some general guidelines on what we look at:

  • Product Information: We assess how clearly and comprehensively manufacturers describe the products they can produce, including details about categories, specialties, and unique product types. If specifically mention they can make the product, they score high. If they're vague and we have to infer whether they can make it, they score low.
  • Service Offerings: Similar to products, manufacturers that clearly outline the services they offer (as contract manufacturing, private labeling, or custom recipe development) will score and rank higher.
  • Capabilities, Capacity, and Minimum Quantities: Providing info on those little extras that brands look for when they run a search - specific types of equipment, packaging they need, minimum order quantities, and the likes - gives a manufacturer a better ranking.
  • Website and Online Presence: A well-organized, modern, and informative website allows brands to easily understand your offerings positively impacts the ranking.
  • Fit for Different Brands: A manufacturer’s ability to communicate their niche and strengths, whether they cater to large-scale production or smaller, artisanal operations gives higher scores.

How to Improve Your Ranking

So if you're looking to be more visible on comanufacturers.com by improving your ranking, there are some pretty clear ways to game our system. Here are the steps you can take to enhance your ranking:

  • Submit Your Information: Make sure we have accurate, up-to-date details about your products, services, capabilities, minimum quantities, and more. By submitting this information directly to us, you can ensure your profile reflects your strengths. And having direct, verified info from you gives you a boost in the rankings.
  • Be Clear and Comprehensive: The more detailed and transparent your information is on your website, the easier it is for brands to see how you can meet their needs. Include specifics about product categories, production capabilities, certifications, and any unique advantages you offer.
  • Highlight Your Certifications: Certifications such as GMP, USDA Organic, or Kosher can set you apart and demonstrate your commitment to quality and compliance.
  • Be Clear About Minimums Up-front: Small or niche manufacturers can score just as well as larger operations. The importance is that they clearly communicate their fit for smaller brands or specialized projects, so sharing a minimum will give you a boost.
